Insight of PD(AM)

Ultimately, it’s about putting the students at the center when we talk about the design of learning. Teachers are used to design taking consideration of what they want to teach, how they want to teach. It’s important to design start from analyzing student’s needs and how they learn. Linking to my current work with schools, it is key to get teachers to observe and reflect on what students have learnt instead of what they taught during the lesson.

  1. It is no longer enough to say "I have taught a good lesson today". To be truly student-centric means designing our lessons with our learners in mind. Differentiated instruction should not be a matter of good-to-have but a must-have.

  2. Besides looking into the cognitive development in the design, perhaps we also need to look into the affective domain of the students when designing learning. We have understood that it is important to build rapport with students, but seems like we did not take this point into consideration when designing lessons. So besides the teacher-student interactions, we could also look into student-student interactions when designing learning.
